Tom Stanton is the Executive Director of the Children's Justice Center, a non-profit foundation with the purpose of organizing El Paso lawyers to represent for freechildren who have been removed from their homes on allegations of abuse or neglect. Tom has represented children since 1989 and says that he remains in contact with many of the children who have aged out' of the system. He has developed training materials and taught continuing legal education courses in mental health and standards of care for lawyers advocating for children. Tom's own advocacy has taken him to the Texas Supreme Court and the Fifth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals on behalf of children and their families. Tom's position with the Children's Justice Center is without compensation. There are over 50 El Paso lawyers who have undertaken representation of children through the Children's Justice Center without pay including the President of the El Paso Bar Association, and some of the most prominent lawyers in El Paso.
